Facebook And Myspace: A Picture Is Worth 1000 Dates

Introduction

If you don’t already have a facebook or myspace account.

then sign up for one at www.facebook.com or at www.myspace.com

I use facebook and myspace more than any person ever should. Myspace and Facebook are both Low Risk and Low Effort. This article will be dealing strictly with the Profile Picture aspect of the facebook and myspace system.

Your Myspace Profile and Facebook Profile Picture

Your profile pictures on myspace and facebook are the first thing people will see. Your Picture Defines You. Even if it is not the real you.

You know that picture of you that is the best one ever taken…? Post that one… As long as it is not 5+ years old, post the best picture of yourself. Use it even if it does stretch the truth a bit.

Wait… isn’t that kind of dishonest? won’t girls be upset when they meet me in person? No. Girls for the most part don’t fall in love when they are with you. It is when they are not with you and their head has the time to build a mental image of you, think about you, and how you make them feel.

Mental Image Is Everything

Have you ever seen the movie Shallow Hal? If you met a girl that was absolutely gorgeous to you but your friends thought she was a freak. Would you still date her?

You may not tell your friends about it but You Would. Have you ever met a girl that has talked about her boyfriend or the guy she is dating and how they are just perfect? These girls just don’t realize their flaws. Realize is the wrong word here though, because they know he has flaws, but guess what? Their mental image of him has no flaws.

So is it a bit dishonest?            Yes.     Dating though is never truly honest. It is not like you list all of your flaws and insecurities right when you meet someone. So why do it with your picture?

Not only that, but by having a great picture, as girls are talking to you online and you are conversing, they will be building a mental image of you based upon that picture. If the picture downgrades your flaws, her mental image of you will have fewer flaws as well.

Facebook Profile

Don’t Be A Square

On facebook the first thing you should do is think about your picture from an advertising perspective. You Are Selling Yourself. If you were an advertiser you would want your advertisement to be as visible as possible and take up as much space as possible.

In facebook terms this means that whatever picture you decide to use, it should be TALL. Cut the picture in a photo editing program and make sure it is really tall. A 1/3 width to height ratio is optimal, though it doesn’t have to be that exact.

Not only will a tall picture take up more room on your personal profile page but it will take up more room, get more attention, and give you more of a presence within almost every other aspect of facebook.

If you are attending an event, your thumbnail will be much larger than the others. If you post on someone’s wall, your picture will take up nearly Twice the room of a square profile picture. Bottom Line Is Don’t Be A Square.

*Note* You should also go to Profile > Edit > Picture > Thumbnail Version, and change your thumbnail display to better suit whatever picture you display.

Myspace Profile

In myspace there is less to the profile picture. You don’t really have to adjust it to a certain size. Just keep in mind to post a great picture of yourself and make sure you are the focus of the picture. Since the profile picture here is smaller, it is more important that you have one that is easily visible and focused on you. Sure someone can click pictures and look at the larger version, but that’s only if the girls are interested enough to get there.

Borders…         No one adds borders to their pictures in myspace! Go to an image editing program and add a border to your picture! Just a solid color, nothing too crazy. You might even want to make a border with a color that goes with your layout. Just try new things. I am not saying you must have a border but sometimes it gets more attention. It’s the small stuff that will set you apart from all the other guys on myspace.

Always add a caption to your myspace image.         Once you have your myspace picture the way you want it and on your site, add a caption. The caption should encourage comments but without looking like you’re asking.
